Developing natural capital. Long term value. At scale.

For more than 20 years, CO2 Australia has been at the forefront of Australia’s carbon market, helping shape what credible carbon projects look like and raising the bar for quality and integrity.

Now we’re looking beyond the credit. Beyond the tonne.

We bring science, investment thinking and deep experience together to scale restoration, decarbonisation and natural capital to create long-term assets, not just credits.

[ ABOUT ]

Verified carbon credits. Value that goes further.

Australia’s ACCU market provides a strong foundation for globally accepted, credible, independently verified carbon abatement. But a tonne of carbon can carry more than one kind of value.

We look for projects where carbon sits alongside restoration, biodiversity, cultural value, community outcomes and long-term land value.

We actively seek out the challenge of hard-to-abate sectors, where nature-based and technology-enabled solutions can deliver meaningful impact at scale. As a natural capital developer and manager, we believe the next generation of carbon abatement will require both: working with nature where it can deliver, and harnessing technology where it can unlock new possibilities. That’s how we create lasting value for climate and nature.

What we’re developing

Tamala Project

[ Shark Bay, Western Australia • 36,975 ha • In Progress ]

Restoring Country at rangeland scale.

A flagship carbon and restoration opportunity on the Shark Bay coast, in a World Heritage setting, with Traditional Owner engagement and CO2 Australia holding the pastoral lease.

72,290 ha: total property assessed

36,975 ha: LiDAR-verified plantable area

97,127 ACCUs/year: indicative carbon potential

Habitat Positive: Sanctuary One

[ North West, NSW • In Progress ]

Carbon that gives nature more room to recover.

A carbon-led restoration program designed to deliver measurable environmental outcomes at scale, while creating wider conservation, community and brand value.

3,050 ha: one of Australia’s largest Box-Gum Woodland rewilding sites

Up to 1 million native seedlings planned

Up to 36 threatened species supported, including koalas

Technology Focused Solutions

[ Australia • Future ]

Taking abatement beyond the land.

We acknowledge that natured based solutions alone are not enough. We need to embrace technology-led carbon solutions designed to tackle emissions at source, offering a more durable solution.

Nature-based sequestration will do a great deal of the work of getting Australia to net zero, but it cannot do all of it. Reforestation and soil carbon build slowly and are ultimately bounded by the amount of suitable land available.

Technology-based abatement complements that foundation by delivering volume sooner and holding it more securely. CO2 Australia is looking at methane abatement and biochar projects in Australia, to complement our natured based projects already delivering carbon abatement, biodiversity offset and restoration outcomes.

Biochar works from the other direction, taking biomass carbon that would otherwise return to the atmosphere within a decade and converting it into a mineralised form that resists decomposition for centuries, with co-benefits for soil structure and water-holding capacity where it is applied.

Neither displaces the case for planting trees on Country. Together with nature-based projects, they let a portfolio carry both the durability that buyers increasingly ask for and the near-term volume the transition actually needs.

Ventilation air methane (VAM) abatement is the clearest example: methane vented from underground coal mining is a short-lived but intensely warming gas, and destroying it at the shaft converts a continuous emission stream into abatement measured in the hundreds of thousands of tonnes CO2-e a year, from the day the plant is commissioned, with no reversal risk to manage afterwards.
